The Big Idea
For grades 1-3 Reading literature and reading informational text are given equal weight in the new Common Core State Standards. This set of 40 cards includes high-interest, leveled non-fiction passages that help prepare students to be successful in reading and understanding this type of material. The content is cross-curricular – drawn from science, social studies, and math – and each passage includes four multiple-choice questions plus a suggested writing extension activity. For use with the Hot Dots pen (sold separately).

1. Read the passage…
2. Turn the card over, review the possible answers, and press the Hot Dots pen to the dot next to the correct answer…
3. Listen as the Hot Dots pen responds with lights and audio, telling you if you are right or wrong.
