On 19 December 1997, 104 lives were tragically lost when SilkAir flight MI 185 crashed into the waters of the Musi River in Palembang, Indonesia. Most of those who perished had probably never contemplated such an untimely end to their lives. Their lives were full of promise and there were dreams that had yet to be fulfilled. The experience had a strong impact on many. In fact, it was as if the whole nation wept with those who had lost their loved ones. This experience and other encounters with bereaved individuals and families have raised many questions for the author: What do we value in life? How should we live? Is life only about material well-being and economic advancement? Do we continue to live like there will always be a tomorrow? Or do we make the most of each day because we don t know if tomorrow will come? Journey with the author as he grapples with such questions and reflects on mortality, priorities and the things that really matter in life.
