Tan Lay Leng is an expressive introvert who enjoys Thai food, loves travelling to Taiwan and Nepal, and is extremely 'emo'. Having been in the teaching profession for over 10 years in at least three countries, she has been on roller-coaster rides with her students, experiencing ups and downs together with them. Lay Leng also served as a full-time school counsellor for three years. She received the National Caring Teacher Award in 2006, and the Outstanding Contribution Award in 2009 and 2010. Her current goal is to complete a cycling trip in Taiwan.
