IMPULSE CONTROL GAME
Learning to stop and think is a good start, but effective control of impulses requires the acquisition of specific skills. The game teaches seven specific skills that have been proven in the research literature to help impulsive children control their impulses, make good decisions, and avoid actions that are detrimental to themselves and others.
The skills learned in the game are:
Accepting delayed gratification
Reading social cues
Understanding the benefits of impulse control
Developing positive internal speech
Improving problem solving skills
Understanding the consequences of impulsive actions
Improving the ability to stop a behaviour
Players: 2-6 players (more with team play)
Grades: 2 – 8 Playing time: 30 minutes (or longer if desired)
